Today’s Weird Shit: The Anatomy of a Transformation
Some days are just… strange. They start with a mundane chore, pivot into a major physical milestone, detour through a cosmic nap, survive a petty office laundry heist, and end with a profound lesson on the human nervous system.
Today was one of those days.
The Morning Power Move
The day kicked off with school drop-offs and my daily peptide routine, but the real headline was the milestone: I finally got my Invisalign off. At 40, people think you’re past the "braces phase," but let me tell you, it’s a total game-changer. I went to the orthodontist to get my trays removed, and honestly, fixing my teeth has been the greatest thing ever. By shifting my bottom jaw and clearing the crowding, I’ve effectively silenced years of chronic migraines. There’s a secret, burning obsession I’ve always had with my teeth—partly to avoid the dental struggles I saw in my family, and partly because I’m determined to rewrite my own genetic narrative. Today, I won that round.
The Cosmic Nap & The Laundry Heist
After the orthodontist, I picked up my son, and the atmospheric energy was just… heavy. We both completely checked out, drifting into a nap so deep it felt like we’d hibernated for a century. We woke up to the jarring reality of alarms, scrambling to get to therapy and my office, respectively.
Then, the universe decided to test my patience. I tried to knock out some laundry between clients, only to find my clothes had been evicted from the washer by someone else. But I didn't stew over it. There’s no point in getting upset over things you cannot control. I simply moved on to my next client and kept my energy focused where it mattered.
The Real Work: Trauma is Trauma
The day closed with my final client, where the conversation shifted to the heavy stuff: the autonomic nervous system and how the body stores memories.
We talked about how we have to stop living in a fantasy if we want change, and why we need to break out of our bubbles. I used an example of someone having a "cushiony" life getting their Louis Vuitton bag stolen. My client immediately shot back, "Oh, boo-hoo." That was all she saw—and all she heard—was the bag. She was fixated on the status symbol.
But that’s where the judgment blinds us. I told her: Trauma is trauma. The body doesn't know the difference between a high-end designer bag being swiped and the terror of a childhood house fire. The physiological response—the fight-or-flight, the survival wiring—is identical.
Just because the external experience looks different doesn't mean the internal impact is "lesser." When I look at a person, I don't see the Louis Vuitton or the bank account. I don't see the "cushion" of their life. I see the history. I see the survival mechanisms. I see the human. Being able to see past the fluff and recognize the raw, human trauma beneath the surface? That’s what sets me apart. And honestly? I’m damn proud of that.
Final Thoughts
Today was a reminder that we are all just walking, talking, and occasionally misaligned nervous systems trying to get from point A to point B. Whether it’s straightening your teeth or shedding old trauma, it’s all about the work we put in to make ourselves whole.
What about you? Are you holding onto a "fantasy" that’s keeping you from seeing the reality right in front of you?
